Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora in Nelson Marlborough is seeking a Consultant Vascular Surgeon to lead and grow vascular services. The role is based at Nelson Hospital with cross-site duties at Wairau Hospital in Blenheim, and includes an after-hours on-call roster.

You will deliver comprehensive vascular care across acute and planned cases, collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, and help shape regional strategies in partnership with Christchurch Hospital.

Qualifications

• Deliver high-quality care across the complete spectrum of vascular surgery, including PAD, carotid surgery, open and endovascular aneurysm repair, dialysis access, and acute trauma.
• Combine strong open surgical proficiency with endovascular skills to expand local treatment options for the Top of the South population.
• Hold FRACS (Vascular) or equivalent, with eligibility for an Annual Practicing Certificate in the Vocational Scope of Vascular Surgery with MCNZ.
• Foster a collaborative, inclusive environment that prioritizes patient safety, clinical governance, and multidisciplinary teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Lead the growth and modernisation of the vascular service and establish innovative care pathways.
