Nelson Hospital is seeking for a 12-month fixed-term Neurologist position to provide services across Nelson and Blenheim from October 2026.
As a Consultant Neurologist, you willprovide specialist neurological assessment and management within a regionalsecondary care service. The role is primarily outpatient-focused, withneurologists conducting regular outpatient clinics and contributing toinpatient consultative care when required.
Inpatient neurology patients are admittedunder General Medicine and remain under General Medicine for the duration oftheir admission. Neurologists provide specialist advice, with managementimplemented by the admitting general physicians. As such, Neurologist may be required to review inpatients and offer consultative recommendations ratherthan assume primary responsibility for care.
The position offers a varied andrewarding caseload across a broad range of neurological conditions, withopportunities to contribute to service development, multidisciplinarycollaboration, and clinical education.
The Nelson Marlborough Neurology Service is a secondarycare service providing specialist neurological assessment and managementpredominantly in the outpatient setting.
The service operates across two hospital sites:
Patients requiring tertiary-level neurological care aretransferred to tertiary centres as appropriate. Our General Medicine colleaguesare highly experienced and manage a wide range of complex neurologicalpresentations locally, enabling neurologists to focus on specialist assessment,diagnostic expertise, and treatment planning.
