Job summary

Z Energy NZ in Wellington is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to steer technical direction across software projects in a hybrid setup. You will guide engineering teams, shape architecture and enforce coding standards, while remaining hands-on when needed to unblock delivery and deploy code.

The role emphasises collaboration with architects and product teams, advancing AI adoption and modern engineering practices across the Supply and Retail spaces.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading software teams in complex environments.
• Strong Azure cloud expertise across applications and integrations.
• Hands-on experience with C#, .NET and modern engineering practices.
• Experience designing event-driven architectures at scale.
• Proficiency with Terraform and IaC workflows.
• Strong GitHub, CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tooling knowledge.
• Ability to review code and uphold engineering standards.
• Exposure to Node.js and modern front-end technologies advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical direction and architecture across software engineering initiatives.
• Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership throughout delivery lifecycles.
• Drive coding standards and adoption of Ampol engineering practices.
• Conduct code reviews to maintain quality, security and performance.
• Own, prioritise and reduce technical debt across applications and platforms.
• Champion practical AI adoption to improve engineering productivity and quality.
• Troubleshoot complex technical issues and unblock teams for delivery.
• Collaborate with architects, product teams and stakeholders on outcomes.
• Drive automation, testing and operational best practices.
• Contribute to technology roadmaps, platform modernisation and continuous improvement.
