Job summary

DEFEND Limited is seeking a Senior Network Security Operations Engineer to lead secure, resilient network services and guide a growing team in Christchurch. You’ll own complex incidents, mentor junior engineers, and drive improvements across 24/7 operations.

You’ll bring deep networking and security expertise, strong communication skills, and the ability to own outcomes from detection to resolution, including on-call duties.

Qualifications

• Deep networking and security expertise with ownership mindset.
• Experience in incident response, troubleshooting and fault resolution.
• Experience in network operations and support, with ability to lead.
• Excellent written and verbal communications and documentation skills.
• Mentor juniors and contribute to team capability.
• Comfort with a 24/7 on-call rotation.

Responsibilities

• Lead, deliver, and support technical solutions to customers.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members, acting as first point of escalation for issues.
• Perform incident, investigation, and analysis to assess severity and impact.
• Diagnose complex faults and lead the development and implementation of effective resolution.
• Proactively identify risks and opportunities for improvement, recommending changes to maintain security and resilience.
• Ensure compliance with change management practices when implementing changes.
• Provide technical leadership to ensure secure, reliable delivery of network security services.
• Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation for rapid response during incidents.
• Maintain and promote accurate technical documentation.
