Job summary

DEFEND in New Zealand is seeking a Senior Network Security Operations Engineer to lead proactive network security, incident response, and complex fault resolution, with on-call rotation and mentoring of junior engineers. You will own the technical leadership for secure, resilient delivery of customer network services and drive improvements across the team.

In this role you’ll provide guidance, perform incident investigations, diagnose faults, and ensure documentation is up-to-date.

Qualifications

• Comprehensive knowledge of networking and network security principles.
• Experience in incident response, troubleshooting and fault resolution.
• Ability to lead technical teams and mentor juniors with strong communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead, deliver, and support technical security solutions for customers.
• Mentor junior team members and act as escalation point for issues.
• Perform incident analysis to assess severity and impact.
• Diagnose complex faults and drive effective resolutions.
• Identify risks and recommend improvements to maintain security and resilience.
• Ensure changes follow established change management practices.
• Provide technical leadership for secure, reliable network services.
• Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation for critical incidents.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation.
