Job summary

Waste Management NZ Ltd is seeking a visionary Head of Environmental Engineering & Consenting to lead our environmental engineering team in Redvale, Auckland. You will steer regulatory consenting, environmental assessments, and stakeholder engagement to deliver compliant, sustainable infrastructure projects.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in environmental engineering or environmental consenting.
• Deep knowledge of NZ Resource Management Act (RMA) processes.
• Strong expertise in EIA methodologies and regulatory requirements.
• Proven experience leading environmental projects from concept to consent.
• Extensive stakeholder management with regulatory bodies.
• Proven leadership of technical teams and budget oversight.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Familiarity with NZ environmental legislation and planning frameworks.
• Experience with P&L management and strategic planning (preferred).
• Professional registration or membership with environmental/engineering bodies (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Lead and inspire a team of environmental engineers and consenting specialists.
• Direct preparation and submission of resource consent applications under RMA.
• Provide technical leadership on EIAs and environmental management plans.
• Build relationships with regulatory agencies and local authorities.
• Oversee project budgets, timelines, and resources.
• Stay ahead of regulatory changes and ensure compliance.
• Embed environmental considerations into project planning and delivery.
• Represent the organisation in meetings with regulatory bodies.
