Job summary

Jora New Zealand is seeking an experienced Data Consultant with Databricks expertise to lead end-to-end data platform delivery across Databricks, Azure, and Microsoft Fabric. You'll work closely with client stakeholders, architects, and delivery teams to design, build, and optimise scalable, high-performing data platforms.

This permanent, hybrid role is based in Auckland or Wellington, NZ, with 3 days in office.

Qualifications

• 8+ years\' experience delivering enterprise-scale data platforms and data warehouse solutions.
• 3+ years\' hands-on Databricks experience preferred.
• Strong expertise in Databricks Workspace, Unity Catalog, Compute, Workflows, DLT, and Lakeflow.
• Advanced SQL and strong Python skills.
• Experience with Lakehouse architectures, Delta Lake, and analytics-focused data modelling.
• Strong Git, CI/CD, DevOps, and DataOps practices; Experience implementing data quality and testing frameworks.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• Technical leadership and mentoring experience.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude.
• Databricks certifications and exposure to Microsoft Fabric and Azure Data Platform highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver reliable data pipelines across Lakehouse and warehouse environments.
• Build data solutions using Databricks, Delta Live Tables, Lakeflow, SQL, and Python.
• Apply modern data modelling and Medallion Architecture principles.
• Implement testing, monitoring, data quality, and performance optimisation practices.
• Lead discovery sessions and translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Collaborate with architects and delivery teams to shape solution design and delivery.
• Mentor engineers, conduct peer reviews, and promote engineering best practices.
