Jones Land Management is seeking a hands-on, experienced Landscape Operations Manager to oversee on-site operations across commercial and residential projects in the Queenstown and Central Otago region. Working closely with the company owner and project manager, you will lead and mentor a dynamic team of skilled and unskilled staff, ensuring that all hardscape and softscape projects are delivered safely, efficiently, to the highest quality standards, and on schedule.

Key responsibilities

Manage day-to-day site operations, working side-by-side with the crew to ensure projects are built in accordance with plans, specifications, and engineering requirements

Lead, supervise, and inspire a diverse crew of landscapers, labourers, and sub-contractors. Provide on-the-job training and foster a strong culture of safety and craftsmanship

Coordinate closely with the company owner and project manager to align on project timelines, resource allocation, and logistics

Enforce strict Health & Safety protocols on site. Conduct tool-box talks, manage site hazards, and ensure high standards of quality control for both hard and soft landscaping elements

Coordinate plant, equipment, and material deliveries to site. Manage on-site inventory, plant health (softscapes), and machinery maintenance

Act as the primary on-site point of contact for clients, project managers, and subcontractors, maintaining professional and clear communication

Track daily progress, manage site diaries, record variations, and report directly to management to keep projects on track and within budget

About you

High level of physical fitness and stamina to handle a hands‑on role in a demanding, outdoor environment

Proven experience (3+ years preferred) in a foreman, supervisor, or management role within the landscaping or civil construction industry

Comprehensive knowledge of both hardscape construction (paving, retaining walls, concreting, masonry, drainage) and softscape installation (planting, soil prep, turfing, irrigation)

Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and get the best out of a mixed team of skilled and unskilled staff

Strong familiarity with regional plant species, soils, and climate considerations (Central Otago experience is a distinct advantage)

A solid understanding of New Zealand Health & Safety regulations and best practices on construction sites

A current, clean New Zealand driver's licence (Class 2 or HT endorsement, and Digger/Machinery tickets are highly advantageous)
