Job summary

Mercure Queenstown Resort is seeking a proactive Kitchen Hand to keep our kitchen running smoothly in a fast-paced environment. You will maintain cleanliness, support food prep, and ensure hygienic handling of equipment to assist our chefs in delivering high-quality dishes.

Ideal candidates have a strong work ethic, teamwork, and attention to detail. The role requires working five days per week on a rotating seven-day roster, including weekends and holidays, with opportunities to grow within

Qualifications

• Strong teamwork and communication skills to support the kitchen brigade.
• Attention to detail to keep areas and equipment spotless.
• Good time management and ability to work efficiently under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Cleaning duties within the kitchen, food preparation areas and scullery.
• Kitchens and equipment kept clean and tidy according to Health and Hygiene regulations.
• All crockery, cutlery and glassware are cleaned and stored hygienically.
• Handling of chemicals and equipment per manufacturer’s instructions.
• Waste removed from kitchens regularly and recycled appropriately.
• Assist in food preparation as directed by Executive Chef or supervisors.
• Support safe work practices in line with health and safety policies.

Job Description

Are you a team player who thrives in a fast-paced kitchen environment? We are looking for a dedicated Kitchen Hands to keep our kitchen running smoothly! If you have a passion for great food, a strong work ethic, and love being part of a dynamic team, we would love to hear from you!

As a Kitchen Hand, you will play a vital role in keeping our kitchen running efficiently. You will ensure all kitchen areas are clean and organised, provide food and beverage outlets with sanitised equipment, and follow proper food-handling techniques in line with current health and hygiene regulations. Your support helps our chefs deliver outstanding dishes every time!

Key responsibilities include:

• Actions cleaning duties within the kitchen, food preparation areas and scullery.
• Ensure that kitchens and equipment are kept clean and tidy according to current Health and Hygiene regulations.
• Ensure all operating equipment, crockery, cutlery & glassware is hygienically cleaned and safely stored.
• Ensure the correct handling of chemicals and equipment as per manufacturer’s instructions.
• Ensure waste is removed from kitchens on a regular basis and that it is recycled appropriately.
• Assist in the preparation of food as directed by the Executive Chef or supervisory team.
• Actively support and participate in safe work practices following health and safety, and environment policies and procedures in the workplace.

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices will be advantageous.
• Good time management and ability to work efficiently under pressure.
• Ability to work 5 days per week on a rotating 7 day roster, including after hours, weekends and public holidays.
