Job summary

Heritage Lifecare in Dunedin is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to support the daily meal service for residents at Redroofs Lifecare. This is a Permanent Part-time role offering 4 hours per week, with PM and weekend shifts.

No formal experience required as on-the-job training is provided; you will work in a busy rest home kitchen, performing light duties, with a focus on teamwork and resident wellbeing.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a commercial kitchen preferred; on-the-job training provided.
  • Basic cookery and food hygiene skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Able to work in a team and be reliable.
  • Morning, afternoon and weekend availability.
  • Understanding Nga Paerewa sector standards and Treaty of Waitangi in the workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in meal preparation and serving to residents.
  • Support cook with duties in the kitchen.
  • Maintain cleanliness and food safety in work areas.

About This Role


  • Redroofs Lifecare in the city of Dunedin

  • Permanent Part-time (4 hours per week)

  • PM and weekend’s shifts


Our Kitchen Assistants are responsible for helping to provide meals for our residents at Redroofs Lifecare, working within a cohesive and well-established team environment. We only want the best for our residents, which is why we are seeking a reliable, helpful professional. This is an opportunity to work in an environment where we value career pathways and positive work ethics. This is a busy rest home kitchen where you will be undertaking manual tasks and assisting the cook as requested. Experience is not essential as on the job training will be provided to ensure you succeed in this position. This is a physical role where time on your feet is needed, and a good level of physical fitness is required.


Skills & Experience


  • Experience working in a kitchen, preferably a commercial kitchen would be preferred however on the job training will be provided.

  • Basic cookery and food hygiene skills.

  • Very good interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to work within a team environment and be a team player.

  • Availability for morning, afternoon and weekend shifts.

  • Understanding of Nga Paerewa sector standards and applying the Treaty of Waitangi standards in the workplace.
