We are a small rural school south of Whangārei, seeking an enthusiastic kaiako to become part of our small but effective whānau at Portland School - Te Kura o Tikorangi.
We are proud to be a Level 3 bilingual kura, where proficiency or a strong passion for te reo Māori is essential. The use of te reo Māori, waiata, and pūrākau to support learning is highly valued and encouraged.
Our current need is at the junior end of the kura, with a particular focus on our New Entrant ākonga. This placement may be subject to change depending on the needs of our ākonga and kura, and we are looking for a kaiako who is flexible and embraces the opportunity to work across our kura as required.
We are a Relationships First (R. Bishop) and PB4L kura, and collaboratively we have developed positive and lasting relationships with ākonga, their whānau, staff, the wider community, and support agencies. Our new kaiako will have either explored putting these approaches into their practice, and/or have a willingness to add them to their professional learning kete.
A proactive and positive approach to full structured literacy is a must, as well as using our local area and culture to engage in the curriculum and inquiry learning. We are an enthusiastic and passionate team who love our kura, value our mahi, with a solid connection to our community.
We pride ourselves on the exceptional relationships that exist between kaiako, parents, and ākonga. Our kura and tamariki thrive in the inclusive environment we have created - where identity, belonging, and expression are nurtured.
We look forward to welcoming you and your whānau to be part of our journey.
