Job summary

Rotorua Lakes Council is seeking an experienced IT Infrastructure & Security Lead to shape, protect, and enhance our technology environment. You will own the core infrastructure and security platforms, providing technical leadership and strategic direction for the Information Solutions function.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience in IT infrastructure and cybersecurity leadership roles.
  • Strong knowledge across enterprise infrastructure technologies, cloud, networking, identity management, endpoint management, virtualization, backup, and recovery.
  • Experience developing and maintaining security controls, frameworks, and risk management practices.
  • Demonstrated success leading infrastructure operations and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience with business continuity and disaster recovery planning and testing.
  • Strong vendor and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into practical business outcomes.
  • Proactive, solutions-focused mindset with a commitment to customer service excellence.
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and leadership capabilities.

  • Developing and implementing infrastructure and security strategies that support Council's objectives.

  • Leading cybersecurity initiatives, security controls, and risk management activities.
  • Managing infrastructure lifecycle planning, upgrades, maintenance, and continuous improvement programmes.
  • Overseeing business continuity and disaster recovery planning, testing, and readiness.
  • Working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to deliver technology outcomes.
  • Providing trusted advice and technical guidance to stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
  • Supporting project delivery by contributing infrastructure and security expertise.
  • Monitoring emerging technologies, threats, and industry best practices to inform future direction.

This is an exciting opportunity for a technically strong and people-focused leader to take ownership of Council's core infrastructure and security platforms while contributing to the strategic direction of our Information Solutions function.

About the Role

This role will provide technical leadership, operational oversight, and strategic security direction for Council's technology infrastructure environment.

You will be responsible for ensuring our infrastructure platforms are reliable, resilient, secure, and well governed. Balancing sound risk management with a practical, enabling approach, you'll work closely with stakeholders across Council to ensure technology services support organisational priorities, business continuity and disaster recovery requirements.

You'll lead the design, operation, protection, and continuous improvement of our infrastructure platforms.

This role also provides leadership and guidance to a small team within the wider Information Solutions group and partnering closely with Service Delivery, Business Systems, project teams, vendors, risk and privacy specialists, and senior leaders across Council.

What You'll Bring

You'll ideally have:

  • Significant experience in IT infrastructure and cybersecurity leadership roles.
  • Strong knowledge across enterprise infrastructure technologies, cloud platforms, networking, identity management, endpoint management, virtualization, backup, and recovery solutions.
  • Experience developing and maintaining security controls, frameworks, and risk management practices.
  • Demonstrated success leading infrastructure operations and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience with business continuity and disaster recovery planning and testing.
  • Strong vendor and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to translate complex technical concepts into practical business outcomes.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with a commitment to customer service excellence.
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and leadership capabilities.

Relevant industry certifications and experience working within complex enterprise environments will be highly regarded.
