Job summary

Three Dukes Home Limited seeks an experienced Internal Auditor to strengthen financial controls, construction cost management, and procurement processes across projects.

The role collaborates with management, accounting staff, project managers, and site teams to ensure transactions are accurate, properly authorised, and compliant with New Zealand requirements; you will document findings and recommend practical improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Auditing, or related field.
• Progressive internal-audit or accounting experience for construction or similar projects.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, internal controls, budgeting, and financial reporting.
• Ability to review project costs, variations, and procurement with attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for audit reporting.
• Analytical mindset with problem-solving and risk identification capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Conduct internal audits of financial transactions, project costs, procurement activities, supplier and subcontractor payments, and operational processes.
• Review project budgets, cash flow, cost variations, and project profitability.
• Examine invoices, purchase orders, delivery records, and supporting documents for accuracy.
• Review labour costs, timesheets, payroll records, and allocation to projects.
• Verify that costs are recorded and allocated correctly and that approvals are properly documented.
• Compare budgets with actuals and investigate significant variances or unusual transactions.
• Assess effectiveness of internal controls and identify financial, procurement, and compliance risks.
• Prepare clear audit reports outlining findings, risks, and corrective actions; present to management.
• Follow up on corrective actions and help improve audit procedures and reporting systems.
• Collaborate with accounting staff, project managers, site teams, suppliers, and subcontractors to understand processes and identify improvements.
