Job summary

Awa Environmental Ltd is seeking an Intermediate Three Waters Engineer to join our Wellington team. You’ll contribute to stormwater and water infrastructure design for diverse developments and major projects across New Zealand, collaborating with a skilled team of water engineers and scientists.

You will engage in hydraulic modelling, reporting, and project delivery while working from our Wellington office.

Qualifications

• Intermediate engineer with 3–6 years' experience in water/land development.
• Strong communication and report writing skills.
• Interest in Te Ao Māori and AI applications in water engineering.
• Adaptable, team-oriented, and capable across offices and projects.

Responsibilities

• Civil engineering design (stormwater, wastewater, water supply) for land development and infrastructure projects.
• Prepare technical engineering reports and calculations.
• Do hydraulic modelling to support designs.
• Manage projects to align with scope, budget and schedule.
• Maintain client communications and conduct site inspections.
• Contribute to building the team’s capability and culture.

Job description

Our work spans engineering and consenting for large residential and industrial developments, using low-impact stormwater design principles, through to blue-green and nature-based solutions. We work on projects ranging from small site developments to sophisticated flood modelling for urban catchments, river works, and major transport infrastructure. We design bulk infrastructure from trunk main, pump stations and reservoirs.

Whether leading delivery or contributing specialist expertise, we work closely with iwi, partners, and stakeholders to achieve positive results for our clients, always with heart and excellence.

We have a strong contracted pipeline of work focussed on Council and private development projects. These include daylighting streams, integrated stormwater and urban development design work. We are seeking an exceptional Intermediate Three Waters Engineer to provide three water engineering design with a focus on stormwater for our clients in Wellington, Auckland and across New Zealand. Your skills will also complement our team of water specialists, environmental engineers, hydraulic modellers and scientists in the fields of water infrastructure and land development.

Key responsibilities:

• Civil engineering design (stormwater, wastewater, water supply) for land development and infrastructure projects.
• Preparation of technical engineering reports and calculations.
• Hydraulic modelling to support designs
• Project management to help ensure are projects are to scope, budget and schedule.
• Client management (regular communication, project updates).
• Construction site inspections.
• Contribute to building Awa's capability and culture.

• Excellent communication and report writing skills
• A robust engineering background
• A genuine interest in Te Ao Māori
