Job summary

Talent Propeller Limited is seeking an experienced Intermediate Planner - RMA Consents for Whangārei District Council. This role offers autonomy to process a range of consent applications, with opportunities to support Senior Planners on complex cases and contribute to improved planning processes.

You will provide peer reviews, advise applicants and consultants, and collaborate with Council staff while working to shape development outcomes in Whangārei.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Resource Management Planning
• Minimum four years' post-graduate planning experience
• Eligibility for full NZPI membership
• Solid understanding of the RMA and related legislation

About the role

As an Intermediate Planner - RMA Consents, you'll work with a good level of autonomy, processing a variety of consent applications ranging from straightforward through to moderately complex. There will be plenty to challenge and develop you, including opportunities to support Senior Planners on complex applications and major development proposals.

You'll provide peer support to less experienced planners, contribute to quality decision-making through peer reviews, and act as a trusted advisor to applicants, consultants and Council staff. Along the way, you'll help identify opportunities to improve processes and strengthen the way we deliver planning services.

About you

You're an experienced RMA Consents Planner who enjoys working independently while recognising when to seek advice or elevate issues. You bring a thoughtful and solutions-focused approach, sound judgement, and a strong understanding of risk.

You'll be a collaborative team player with excellent communication skills and the confidence to navigate planning matters of increasing complexity. You will also have:

• A recognised tertiary qualification in Resource Management Planning
• A minimum of four years' post-graduate planning experience
• Eligibility for full NZPI membership
• A solid understanding of the RMA and other relevant legislation

While we are ideally seeking an Intermediate Planner, we are also open to applications from planners with 1-2 years' experience who are able to hit the ground running. Depending on the skills and experience of the successful applicant, an appointment may be made at either Planner or Intermediate Planner level.
