Placements24 is seeking an Instrumentation and Control Technician for our client in Queenstown, Eastern Cape. The role focuses on installation, calibration, maintenance and repair of instrumentation and control systems essential for safe plant operation.

The ideal candidate has a National Diploma or equivalent and at least 4 years of experience in industrial automation, with proficiency in PLC/DCS, HART and Modbus, and strong troubleshooting skills.

Qualifications

• National Diploma or equivalent in instrumentation, electrical engineering or related field.
• Minimum 4 years’ experience as an Instrumentation and Control Technician in power/industrial settings.
• Proficiency with instrumentation such as pressure, temperature, flow and level sensors.
• Experience with PLC and DCS systems; basic programming/configuration skills.
• Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (HART, Modbus).
• Ability to read P&IDs, electrical drawings and control logic; safety‑minded.

Responsibilities

• Install, calibrate, maintain and repair instrumentation including transmitters, sensors and valves.
• Troubleshoot process control loops, PLCs and DCS systems; diagnose faults.
• Perform preventive maintenance according to schedules and safety standards.
• Read P&IDs, electrical schematics and manuals; document activities and parts used.
• Assist commissioning and start‑up of new equipment; work with engineers and techs.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and ensure compliance with safety policies.

About the Role

Our client, a major operator of power generation facilities, is looking for a skilled Instrumentation and Control Technician to join their team in Queenstown, Eastern Cape . This critical role focuses on the installation, calibration, maintenance, and repair of instrumentation and control systems that are essential for the safe and efficient operation of power plants. You will work with a variety of sophisticated equipment, ensuring its accurate functioning and minimal downtime. The successful candidate will have a strong technical background in industrial automation, process control, and troubleshooting. This is a hands‑on position based at our facility in Queenstown, Eastern Cape , offering stability and the opportunity to contribute to the vital energy infrastructure of the region.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, calibrate, maintain, and repair a wide range of instrumentation, including transmitters, sensors, control valves, and analyzers.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with process control loops, PLCs, and DCS systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance on instrumentation and control equipment according to schedules.
• Ensure all instrumentation and control systems are operating within specified parameters and safety standards.
• Read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and technical manuals.
• Work collaboratively with engineers and other technicians to resolve complex technical problems.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders and parts usage.
• Participate in commissioning and start-up activities for new equipment and systems.
• Adhere to strict safety regulations and company policies.
• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts for instrumentation and control systems.

Requirements

• National Diploma or relevant technical qualification in Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• A minimum of 4 years of experience working as an Instrumentation and Control Technician, preferably in the power generation or heavy industrial sector .
• Proficiency with various types of instrumentation (pressure, temperature, flow, level sensors) and control valves.
• Experience with PLC and DCS systems, including troubleshooting and basic programming/configuration.
• Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (e.g., HART, Modbus).
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical drawings, and control logic.
• Excellent diagnostic and problem‑solving skills.
• Good manual dexterity and ability to work with hand and power tools.
• Commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a plant environment located in Queenstown, Eastern Cape .
