Job description

Jora New Zealand will close on 9th September 2026. Thank you for being with us, we are cheering you on as you continue your career journey.

Use your operational intelligence experience to help develop the next generation of intelligence professionals.

Skills Institute is looking for two experienced Industry Trainers to join our team in a full-time, 12-month fixed-term capacity. These positions can be fully remote, open to all eligible applicants across New Zealand; for applicants based in Auckland, the role would require 2 days per week on site at our Wiri campus.

This is an exciting opportunity for professionals with operational intelligence experience to transition into vocational education. You'll support learners completing the New Zealand Certificate in Intelligence (Information Management) Level 5, helping them build the practical skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to succeed across intelligence, law enforcement, defence, regulatory, and private-sector environments.

If you enjoy developing others, explaining complex concepts, and making a meaningful impact, we'd love to hear from you.

What you'll be doing:
  • Facilitate engaging learning sessions covering intelligence concepts, assessments, and programme requirements.
  • Support multiple learner cohorts through mentoring, pastoral care, and regular progress check-ins.
  • Assess learner work and provide timely, constructive feedback to support successful outcomes.
  • Monitor learner engagement, attendance, and progression while maintaining accurate records.
  • Respond to learner queries and provide guidance throughout their qualification journey.
  • Maintain compliance with assessment, moderation, and NZQA quality assurance requirements.
What you'll bring:
  • Significant operational experience within an intelligence or closely related information management environment.
  • Experience in government intelligence, law enforcement, defence, corrections, customs, regulatory agencies, financial crime, fraud investigations, or intelligence support functions.
  • A minimum Level 5 qualification (or equivalent) in intelligence, security, analysis or a related field.
  • Hold Unit Standard 4098, or be willing to obtain it with Skills Group's support as part of your professional development.
  • Strong analytical thinking, professional judgement, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to explain complex intelligence concepts clearly to adult learners.
  • Experience supporting learners, delivering training, education, coaching, or mentoring others.

At Skills Group, our purpose is to maximise human potential. For more than 30 years, we've partnered with learners, employers, and industry to build a skilled workforce across New Zealand. You'll join a supportive team where your expertise is valued, your development is encouraged, and your work helps prepare professionals for meaningful careers in the intelligence sector.

Benefits that back you:
  • Health & wellbeing: TELUS Health Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) and annual flu vaccinations.
  • Leave: Birthday leave.
  • Financial benefits: 3.5% KiwiSaver contribution and 2% SuperLife contribution.
  • Learning & development: Two paid learning hours each week, LinkedIn Learning access, Future Fit development opportunities, and ongoing professional growth support.

If you're ready to use your intelligence expertise to develop future professionals and build a rewarding career in vocational education, we'd love to hear from you.
