Job summary

Te Awa Eatery in Hamilton East, New Zealand, is hiring two chefs specializing in Indian and multi-cuisine cooking to join the team.

You will prepare and cook meals for takeaway orders, dine-in service and offsite catering, maintaining high standards and working with management to ensure smooth kitchen operations.

The role requires at least 1 year of relevant experience or a Level 4 qualification, and hours are permanent full time 30-40 per week, with pay NZD 25–30 per hour depending on skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of relevant experience or a Level 4 qualification.
• Knowledge of Indian cuisine and commercial kitchen operations.
• Ability to work under pressure and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and cook a variety of Indian and multi-cuisine dishes.
• Prepare curries, gravies, tandoori dishes, rice, vegetarian meals and other menu items as required.
• Maintain consistent food quality, taste, portion sizes and presentation.
• Organise food preparation and cooking schedules to meet service and catering deadlines.
• Estimate ingredient quantities, assist with stock ordering and minimise food waste.
• Monitor food freshness, storage and quality.
• Manage kitchen staff, allocate tasks and coordinate daily kitchen operations.
• Follow food safety, hygiene, cleaning and safe food handling procedures.
• Ensure takeaway and catering orders are properly prepared, packed and ready on time.
