Job summary

IHC seeks an experienced Strategic Communications Business Partner – Media & Advocacy to strengthen its voice and public profile across Aotearoa. You will shape proactive media campaigns and advocacy narratives that reflect the rights, inclusion and wellbeing of people with intellectual disabilities.

Reporting to the Head of Strategic Communications, you will work with senior leaders and external stakeholders to translate complex issues into clear messages, supporting spokesperson preparation

Qualifications

• Experience in media relations, external communications, public affairs, advocacy or reputation management.
• Strong writing, influencing and relationship-building skills.
• Sound political and stakeholder awareness; ability to navigate sensitive environments.

Responsibilities

• Develop proactive media and communications strategies to raise awareness of IHC's work.
• Identify opportunities to shape public conversations on disability inclusion.
• Build and maintain relationships with journalists and external stakeholders.
• Translate complex issues into clear, accessible messages with senior leaders.
• Advise on emerging issues, risks and sensitive communications.
• Support media engagement, spokesperson prep and consistent messaging.
• Develop stories reflecting voices of people with intellectual disabilities and whānau.
