Job summary

Te Ako o te Tui Early Learning Service at the University of Auckland's Grafton Campus is seeking a New Zealand-qualified and certificated kaiako to join a supportive team. The service is licensed for 90 tamariki, with an emphasis on meaningful learning, belonging, and culturally responsive practice.

This fixed-term (12 months), full-time position (40 hours per week) is based in the under-2s room (1:3 ratio), with opportunities to work across the full age range as needed to support our diverse

Qualifications

• New Zealand qualified and certificated kaiako with current registration.
• Experience across mixed-age groups in early childhood settings.
• Understanding of Te Whāriki pedagogy and responsive teaching.
• Commitment to relationships, inclusion, and reflective practice.

Responsibilities

• Be NZ qualified and certificated teacher who demonstrates care and advocacy for tamariki.
• Support tamariki across age groups, fostering holistic learning in a culturally diverse setting.
• Design and implement intentional teaching strategies with visible learning progress.
• Apply Te Whāriki to curriculum design and responsive teaching practice.
• Uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and grow te reo Māori understanding.
• Collaborate with kaiako, whānau, and colleagues for planning, assessment and compliance.
