Placements24 is recruiting for a Senior Systems Administrator to oversee and maintain the IT infrastructure for a public services client based in Queenstown, Eastern Cape. The role blends on-site responsibilities with remote work to ensure system availability, performance and security across server environments.

You will manage servers, virtualization platforms, networks, and security practices, while providing support and documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of systems administration/IT infrastructure experience.
• Proven Windows Server and Linux administration experience.
• Strong networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs).
• Experience with virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V).
• Scripting skills (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
• Knowledge of cybersecurity fundamentals and best practices.
• Experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions.
• Hybrid work environment in Queenstown is expected.
• Relevant certifications (MCSA, MCSE, RHCSA, CCNA) are advantageous.

Responsabilités

• Install, configure, and maintain server hardware and operating systems (Windows Server, Linux).
• Manage and monitor network infrastructure (routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs).
• Administer user accounts, permissions and access controls.
• Perform regular backups and ensure data recoverability.
• Monitor system performance and optimize efficiency.
• Ensure security through patching and vulnerability management.
• Troubleshoot hardware, software and network issues promptly.
• Manage virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V).
• Provide end-user support as required.
• Develop and maintain system documentation and procedures.
• Contribute to IT infrastructure planning and strategy.
