ChemCare is a specialist New Zealand logistics and warehousing business providing storage, distribution and supply chain solutions across hazardous goods, food-grade, pharmacy, agricultural and e-commerce products.

We operate multiple warehouse facilities across Auckland and provide nationwide distribution services to a diverse range of customers.

Due to the continued development of our operations and compliance systems, we are looking for a practical and motivated Health, Safety, Compliance & Quality (HSCQ) Advisor to join our HSCQ team.

About the Role

Reporting to the HSCQ Manager, this is a hands-on role supporting health and safety, hazardous substances and dangerous goods compliance, quality and environmental systems across our operations.

A key part of the position will also be product and SDS compliance, including reviewing product information, maintaining dangerous goods and hazardous substance data, and setting up and maintaining product/article records within our WMS, TMS and associated business systems.

This role would suit someone who enjoys a combination of compliance, systems, administration and working directly with operational teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supporting workplace inspections, hazard identification, risk assessments and incident investigations.
  • Maintaining HSCQ registers, incident records, corrective actions and compliance documentation.
  • Reviewing Material Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for completeness, currency and compliance with applicable New Zealand requirements.
  • Reviewing and maintaining hazardous substance and dangerous goods information including classifications, UN numbers, packing groups, storage and segregation requirements.
  • Proactively obtaining missing or updated SDS and product information from customers, suppliers and other stakeholders.
  • Creating, reviewing and maintaining product and article records within the WMS, TMS and other relevant systems.
  • Supporting product migrations, data validation, customer onboarding and system integration activities.
  • Supporting hazardous substance inventories, signage, labelling, segregation and storage controls.
  • Assisting with Location Compliance Certificates, Customs Controlled Areas and other regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Supporting internal, customer, certification and regulatory audits.
  • Managing and following up non-conformances and corrective/preventive actions.
  • Maintaining controlled policies, procedures, SOPs, work instructions, forms and registers.
  • Supporting the company’s ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
  • Supporting emergency preparedness, spill response, training, inductions and toolbox meetings.
  • Maintaining training, competency, gas detection testing, calibration and servicing records.
  • Escalating significant or uncertain safety, product, Dangerous Goods (DG) or compliance matters to the HSCQ Manager.
About You

We’re looking for someone who is organised, accurate and comfortable taking ownership of assigned work through to completion.

Ideally, you will have some experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Health & safety
  • Dangerous goods or hazardous substances
  • Compliance or quality systems
  • Chemical warehousing or logistics
  • Product/SDS management
  • Warehouse or transport management systems
  • ISO management systems
You will also bring:
  • Strong attention to detail and record keeping.
  • Good organisational and time-management skills.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • The ability to interpret SDS and technical product information.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confidence using computer-based systems and working with product data.
  • A practical approach to working with warehouse and operational teams.
  • The ability to work independently while knowing when to seek guidance or elevate an issue.
  • A positive and constructive approach to continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Experience

Experience is important, but we are also open to candidates looking to further develop their career in HSCQ and hazardous substances compliance.

The following would be advantageous:

  • Relevant H&S, compliance or quality experience.
  • Dangerous Goods / hazardous substances training.
  • H&S Representative or other relevant H&S training.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
  • Internal auditing or incident investigation experience.
  • Experience working within warehousing, logistics, manufacturing or a similar operational environment.
  • A relevant HSCQ qualification, or willingness to work towards one.
What We Offer

This is an opportunity to join a specialist New Zealand logistics business where HSCQ is an important part of day-to-day operations rather than simply a corporate function.

You’ll gain practical exposure across health and safety, dangerous goods, hazardous substances, quality, environmental compliance, auditing, operational systems and logistics while working alongside an experienced HSCQ and operational team.

The role offers variety, responsibility and the opportunity to continue developing your technical and compliance knowledge within a complex operational environment.

Interested?

If you have a practical approach to HSCQ, strong attention to detail and enjoy working in an operational environment, we’d like to hear from you.
