Job summary

Spectrum Care in Hamilton East is seeking a House Leader to supervise a care team in our community home. The role combines hands-on support with team leadership, guided by the Service Coordinator, to ensure safe, respectful and high-quality care for adults with disabilities.

Availability covers all shifts; you will coordinate rosters, support activities, and maintain clear written records. A background in care, a driver’s licence, and strong communication in English are essential.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading a team in care settings.
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to organise rosters and manage calendars.
  • Experience balancing general ledgers.
  • Strong English proficiency in writing and speaking.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  • Experience in disability support or challenging behaviours preferred.
  • NZQCF level 4 qualification or higher to align with INZ Level 3 requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a care team in a community home under guidance from the Service Coordinator.
  • Supervise scheduling and roster allocation for 40 hours per week.
  • Engage people supported with activities and community involvement.
  • Maintain clear written records and reports of duties performed.

Hamilton East location


We have more than 100 worksites and support options across the whole Auckland region. In our residential service, we provide services for adults with intellectual and or physical disabilities within our homes and out in their community. We provide 24 hour support which consists rotating roster Monday through to Sunday.


Our House Leader role combines support work and engages, motivates a team of a support team in the home. Working and gaining guidance from your Service Coordinator you would be supervising to ensure and efficient and effective successful service to people we support in a community home.


Skills & Experience


  • Experience leading a team is greatly beneficial especially with the ability to coach and develop individuals

  • Effective report writing skills

  • Organising and allocating rosters

  • Exposure to balancing general ledgers

  • Ability to communicate effectively and supportively with the people you support,

  • their families and your coordinator

  • To be fit enough for an active role that engages anything between sports, community engagement, and recreational activities to personal cares

  • Excellent, clear, understandable verbal and written English is a pre-requisite to be considered for this role


The ideal candidate will have:


  • Experience supporting people with disabilities and/or challenging behaviours

  • Reliability, Commitment, and Passion for working with people

  • A driver's licence

  • The ability to use a computer effectively, including programs such as Word, Internet Explorer, and email


INZ Level 3 skill requirements to be considered:


  • Have worked in the care workforce for 3 years or more, and been paid at least the care workforce wage rate during that time, or

  • A relevant qualification on the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF) — this must be at least a level 4 qualification for a role at skill level 3, or a diploma for a role at skill level 2.
