Job summary

Hutt City Council is seeking a friendly Host | Pou Tiaki at the Wainuiomata Neighbourhood Hub. This permanent part-time role covers 16 hours across two shifts weekly (Mon 9.15am–5.45pm; Sat 8.45am–5.15pm). Be the welcoming face of our libraries and hubs, connecting the community with information and activities.

You will support programmes, events, and day-to-day library tasks while engaging with people of all ages and backgrounds. Biculturalism is valued.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering excellent customer service and supporting community programmes.
• Ability to work with diverse groups and ages.
• Comfort with using technology for library tasks and information access.

Responsibilities

• Welcome customers to the library and hub.
• Provide information and support to visitors and the wider community.
• Assist with school holiday programmes, arts and culture events, and community activities.
• Contribute to day-to-day library tasks and programme delivery.

About the role

We have a permanent part-time vacancy as Host | Pou Tiaki at the Wainuiomata Neighbourhood Hub. This is a lively, welcoming space with a strong sense of community. As a Pou Tiaki, you'll be the friendly and approachable face of our libraries and hubs, providing information and support to customers and the wider community. You'll play a key role in connecting our library with the community, support and deliver activities such as school holiday programmes, arts and culture initiatives, community events, general enquiries, and day-to-day library tasks. No two days are the same!

• Monday – 9.15am to 5.45pm
• Saturday – 8.45am to 5.15pm

About You

We are looking for an innovative and community focused person with a can-do attitude and passion for developing and supporting library programmes and hub services. You will have an outstanding customer service and community-led development ethos, with the ability to work alongside a diverse range of people of all ages and from every part of our community. Working with our team, you'll have a variety of different responsibilities working alongside children and adults. We are seeking someone who embraces biculturalism and cultural diversity, has confidence dealing with a wide range of customer groups, is confident using technology and recognises their own strengths and areas that require development.
