Job summary

Green by Nature is seeking a Trainee Horticulturist to support routine maintenance of plants and gardens across parks, reserves and open spaces in Wellington. You will work alongside experienced staff, learn practical horticulture skills on the job, and contribute to healthy, well-maintained public spaces.

No prior experience required; a positive work ethic, willingness to learn, and a current full driver's license with manual transmission help you get started.

About The Role

As a Trainee Horticulturist, day-to-day you will help the team carry out routine maintenance of plants and gardens in parks, reserves and open spaces.

As you study, you will learn and develop the skills below:

• Comprehend factors affecting plant cycles and basic soil science
• Identify, report, and control plant pests and diseases
• Recognise different types of amenity plants
• Evaluate, prune, and train trees and shrubs for optimal growth
• Prepare and oversee plans for amenity sites

What We're Looking For

Previous experience in the field is not required. If you are a hard worker, with a passion for working outdoors and getting stuck in then you would be a perfect candidate. Other success factors include:
