Job summary

Awanui Labs - Dunedin invites applications for a full-time, permanent Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technician in Histology, based in Dunedin. The role is 80 hours per fortnight and requires meticulous work, strong teamwork, and a commitment to quality and customer service.

Qualifications

• Registration with MSC NZ and annual practising certificate is desirable but not essential.
• Ability to work methodically and adhere to strict quality procedures.
• Excellent attention to detail and accurate record-keeping.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong customer service focus.

Responsibilities

• Receive, process, and accurately store specimens, ensuring urgent samples are prioritized appropriately.
• Plan and manage workload effectively to meet established deadlines and laboratory turnaround times.
• Perform routine and specialised histological techniques following validated protocols and SOPs.
• Apply a thorough understanding of the principles and techniques underlying departmental methods.
• Set up, operate, and maintain laboratory equipment in accordance with SOPs and method manuals.
• Perform routine equipment checks, calibrations, maintenance, and quality control, escalating issues as necessary.
• Utilize the Laboratory Information System (LIS) proficiently, including generating worklists and accurately recording experimental or test data.
