Job summary

Awanui Labs, part of Awanui Group, is seeking a dedicated Medical Laboratory Technician for our Histology Department at Hutt Hospital. This fixed-term, part-time role (64 hours per fortnight) offers an opportunity to develop technical skills in a supportive lab environment while contributing to high-quality patient outcomes.

You will work independently and as part of a team, demonstrate strong attention to detail, and adhere to quality procedures and LIS data entry.

Qualifications

• Experience in immunohistochemistry is desirable but not essential.
• Methodical work with strict quality procedure guidelines.
• Team-focused with initiative, excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proactive and adaptable approach to learning new processes and continuous improvement.
• Excellent attention to detail, with good record-keeping skills.
• Ability to work independently, particularly during night-shift hours, while in a supported role.
• Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practising Certificate is essential.
• Eligibility to work in New Zealand.

About the role | Mō te tūranga:

Our Histology Department is currently searching for a dedicated, enthusiastic and competent Medical Laboratory Technician. This is a fixed term, part-time position of 64 hours per fortnight, based at Hutt Hospital.

You will be willing to learn new skills and work well independently as well as part of a team. We are looking for someone who is highly organised, detail-oriented and friendly, with a strong focus on quality and customer service.

This role offers the opportunity to develop your technical skills within a supportive laboratory environment while contributing to high-quality patient outcomes. The successful applicant must have a high degree of accuracy and be self-sufficient to excel in this role.
