Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is seeking a Health Data Analyst to turn health data into clear insights that support better decisions across the system. You will analyze activity and performance, collaborate with Hospital & Specialist Services and Commissioning, and deliver evidence-based analyses from multiple datasets.

You will work with approved AI-enabled tools, including Copilot, to enhance discovery and reporting while applying professional judgment and governance.

Qualifications

• A relevant tertiary qualification in business analysis, business insights, data science or statistics.
• 3–5 years' experience in a similar analytical role within a large organisation.
• Strong understanding of analytics fundamentals and how data creates business value.
• Experience with data visualisation, dashboards, data cleansing and process mapping.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to present findings to diverse audiences.
• Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equity in health.
• Willingness to learn emerging technologies including AI-enabled tools.
• Advantage: knowledge of NZ health sector; experience with BI tools.

Responsibilities

• Analyze health service activity and performance across Health NZ.
• Develop dashboards and deliver actionable insights for stakeholders.
• Respond to time-sensitive requests (Parliamentary Questions, Official Information Act requests, media inquiries).
• Integrate data from National Collections, RAPID and regional sources to identify trends.
