As a Health Care Assistant, you'll be an important part of our multidisciplinary team, supporting patients throughout their cancer treatment journey. Working under the guidance of our nursing team, you'll help create a welcoming, safe and comfortable environment while contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care.

This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same. You'll have the opportunity to build meaningful connections with patients and families while supporting the clinical team to deliver exceptional care. This is a permanent full-time opportunity and reports to the Nurse Manager.

What You’ll Be Doing

Supporting Patients and Families

• Providing a warm, welcoming and supportive experience for patients and their families
• Offering refreshments and comfort measures throughout the day
• Assisting patients with non-clinical needs and helping them feel at ease during treatment

Supporting Clinical Care

• Assisting nurses with delegated tasks within your training and competencies

Creating an Exceptional Patient Environment

• Maintaining clean, tidy and welcoming treatment areas
• Restocking clinical supplies, procedure trolleys and linen
• Assisting with stock ordering and inventory management
• Providing administrative support as required

The Bowen Icon Cancer Centre is a joint venture between Evolution Healthcare and Icon Group, established in 2017. The centre provides integrated, non-surgical cancer treatments in an outpatient setting, operating Monday to Friday (8am–6pm) with flexibility for after-hours treatment when required. Each year, approximately 900 new patients receive care across three medical specialties: Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, and Clinical Haematology, including consultation, treatment, and supportive care. Located within the Bowen Specialist Centre in Wellington, the purpose-built facility features:

• A radiation treatment suite with a linear accelerator, CT scanner, and advanced planning technology
• A day hospital with seven systemic treatment spaces
• Six outpatient consulting rooms

The multidisciplinary team includes medical specialists, nurses, radiation therapists, medical physicists, administration staff, clinical trials coordinators, and management. The centre also maintains close relationships with independent providers of supportive care services.
