Job summary

Watercare in Central Auckland is seeking a seasoned Head of Cyber Security to lead our enterprise security strategy, risk governance and incident response. Reporting to the Chief Digital Officer, you will shape how Watercare protects information, systems and services across digital platforms and operations.

You will translate cyber risk to executives, drive security improvements, oversee monitoring and audits, and partner with architecture, platforms, workplace and delivery teams to embed

Qualifications

• Senior leadership experience in cyber security or information security.
• Strong knowledge of cyber risk management, governance and assurance.
• Experience operating security functions within complex environments.
• The ability to communicate cyber risk clearly to non-technical executives.
• Experience leading security operations and cyber incident response.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-management skills.
• A practical, risk-based approach to security.
• Experience in regulated or critical infrastructure environments advantageous.
• Familiarity with NIST or ISO 27001 frameworks beneficial.
• Experience with external regulators or national cyber agencies advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Define and implement Watercare's enterprise cyber and information security strategy.
• Identify, assess and manage cyber risks across digital and technology services.
• Maintain cyber risk register with ownership, mitigation and reporting.
• Establish governance frameworks, policies and standards for security.
• Embed security-by-design across delivery and operations.
• Provide assurance on security posture to exec and Board forums.
• Oversee security monitoring, threat detection and incident response.
• Coordinate incident response and post-incident reviews.
• Lead security awareness programs for staff and leaders.
• Partner with architecture, platforms, workplace, data and delivery teams.
