Job summary

Waste Management NZ Limited is seeking a reliable, motivated individual to contribute to the safe and efficient operation of an industrial distillation unit, boiler and oil filter baler. This shift-based role offers ongoing training and a supportive team environment within WM New Zealand.

You'll work full-time (40 hours per week) across rotating 8‑hour or longer 10‑12 hour shifts, with opportunities to develop skills in production and plant operations while maintaining high safety standards.

Qualifications

• Great can-do attitude and willingness to learn (training provided).
• Forklift experience desirable but not essential.
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
• Rotating shifts across Monday to Friday with flexible patterns.
• Permanent full-time role at 40 hours per week with 8– or 10–12‑hour shifts.
• Experience in production or operations environments preferred.
• Must pass pre-employment police, drug and alcohol testing.
• Safety-focused, non-smoker preferred; able to handle flammable solvents with protocols.
• Must be able to access site by own vehicle; forklift license desirable.

Responsibilities

• Operate plant equipment and processing systems safely and efficiently.
• Receive, inspect and process waste oils, sludges, oily water and other streams.
• Complete start-up, shutdown, checks and routine maintenance.
• Monitor plant performance, tank levels and product quality.
• Conduct sampling, inspections and stock reconciliations.
• Maintain operational records and compliance documentation.
• Safely load/unload incoming waste and recovered products.
• Maintain housekeeping, spill prevention and environmental compliance.
• Follow health, safety and environmental procedures, including PPE.
