Job summary

Odyssey in Hamilton is seeking two fulltime Peer Support Specialists to join a new community café-based service. You will work 40 hours a week from Tuesday to Saturday, 7:30am–4pm, creating a welcoming space where people with mental health or addiction challenges can drop in for coffee, connection, and support or referrals.

Ideally you have lived experience, a recovery story, and training in peer support; experience in social services helps, and knowledge of Māori tikanga or Pacific cultures is

Qualifications

• Personal lived experience with recovery from mental health or addictions challenges.
• 1+ years of relevant work experience in a peer role.
• Completed specialist or intentional peer support training.
• Experience in the social services, addictions and/or mental health sectors.
• Interest in and/or knowledge of Māori tikanga and Pacific cultures.

Responsibilities

• Support people with mental health or addictions to achieve their goals.
• Help create a friendly, safe drop-in space within the cafe.
• Rostered shifts in the cafe to serve customers under supervision.
• Refer clients to other services for ongoing care as appropriate.
