Job summary

PERSOL, in partnership with Programmed Facility Management, is seeking a Grounds & Facilities Caretaker for Haeata Community Campus in Christchurch. This is a hands-on role focusing on grounds maintenance, including mowing, weed eating, weed spraying, and some minor handyman tasks within a busy school environment.

This temporary position offers a pathway to permanent for the right person. You will join an established caretaking team, work with staff and contractors, and help keep the campus

Job description

PERSOL is proud to partner with Programmed Facility Management to recruit a Grounds & Facilities Caretaker for Haeata Community Campus.

This is a hands‑on role with the main focus on grounds maintenance. You'll be mowing, weedeating, weed spraying and keeping the school grounds safe, tidy and well maintained, along with some minor handyman and facilities work.

This is a busy school environment, so we're looking for someone who is energetic, physically fit, practical and not afraid to get stuck in.

About The Role

This is a temporary position, with the potential for a permanent opportunity for the right person.

You’ll join an established caretaking team and work alongside school staff and contractors to keep the campus well maintained.

Hours: 11:00am-7:00pm, Monday to Friday.

Your Day-to-day Work Will Include

• Mowing, weedeating and general grounds maintenance
• Weed spraying and outdoor upkeep
• Minor maintenance and handyman tasks
• Responding to maintenance requests
• Regular site checks
• Updating jobs using basic computer systems

What We're Looking For

You’ll be someone who:

• Is energetic, physically fit and comfortable with active outdoor work
• Has experience in grounds maintenance, gardening, caretaking, landscaping, trades or a similar environment
• Is practical, reliable and takes pride in their work
• Is confident using grounds maintenance equipment
• Can work independently and as part of a team
• Is comfortable working in a busy school environment

Important Requirements

As this is a school‑based role, the successful applicant must successfully pass all required pre‑employment checks, including:

• NZ Police Vetting
• Ministry of Justice background check
• Drug & alcohol screening
• Full, clean NZ Driver Licence
• Legal right to work in New Zealand
