Job summary

GSM Trading Ltd in Lower Hutt is seeking an experienced Grill Chef for a permanent role. You will grill patties, assemble burgers, prepare ingredients and maintain food safety and kitchen hygiene to ensure consistent quality.

Applicants must have at least two years of commercial kitchen experience. The role offers 30–35 hours per week with shifts that include lunch, evenings and weekends; hourly pay ranges from $28 to $32, with weekly bank payments.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years of relevant commercial kitchen experience.
• Strong knowledge of food safety and safe handling practices.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent attention to detail and consistency in food preparation.
• Reliable, punctual and capable of working independently.
• Availability to work evenings, weekends and peak service times.

Responsibilities

• Plan and organise the preparation and cooking of food.
• Grill, cook and season burger patties with consistent quality and timing.
• Build and assemble burgers to specifications.
• Maintain high food safety, hygiene and temperature-control standards.
• Prepare fresh ingredients and ensure proper stock rotation using FIFO.
• Maintain a clean and organised workstation, including daily grill cleaning.
• Follow portion-control procedures, quality standards and kitchen operating procedures.
• Manage cooking times during busy periods and coordinate with team members.
• Assist junior staff with grill operations and food safety.
• Support the kitchen manager in maintaining compliance with food safety requirements.
