Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Taranaki seeks an experienced GP to join as GP Liaison Advisor: Primary-Secondary Integration. You will lead system-level clinical liaison between general practice and hospital services, strengthening relationships and driving integrated care pathways.

The role focuses on improving patient journeys, advising on service development, and supporting governance for equity in care. 0.4 FTE and part-time flexibility are offered, in Taranaki region.

Qualifications

• Hold vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practising Certificate.
• Maintain appropriate medical indemnity cover and stay clinically current.
• Demonstrate established relationships across both primary and secondary care.

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Taranaki is seeking an experienced and respected GP to join us as our GP Liaison Advisor: Primary-Secondary Integration.

This is a unique opportunity to provide clinical leadership at a system level, helping strengthen relationships between general practice and hospital services, improve access to care, and support initiatives that create a more seamless experience for patients.

About the Role

Working closely with primary care, hospital specialists, clinical leaders and health system partners, you will:

• Strengthen communication and collaboration between primary and secondary care.
• Support the development and implementation of integrated models of care and clinical pathways.
• Provide strategic advice on issues affecting primary-secondary care integration.
• Enhance referral processes and support appropriate access to specialist services.
• Build the capability of primary care to support patients before, during and after specialist treatment.
• Contribute to the development of HealthPathways and other service improvement initiatives.
• Act as a key clinical advisor within Health New Zealand Taranaki, working alongside the Professional Leads for Medicine, Nursing and Allied Health.
• Serve as a trusted conduit between general practice and hospital services, ensuring both sectors have a strong voice in service development.

About you

• Hold vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practising Certificate.
• Maintain appropriate medical indemnity cover.
• Have significant experience in general practice and a strong understanding of secondary care services.
• Be clinically current and ideally actively involved in clinical practice.
• Bring established relationships and credibility across both primary and secondary care sectors.
• Have excellent communication, facilitation and relationship-building skills.
• Demonstrate a commitment to clinical governance, quality improvement and achieving health equity.
• Understand the importance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally safe healthcare delivery.
