Job summary

Southland District Council invites applications for a GISTechnician to provide spatial design and GIS support across Council, maintaining accurate spatial information and delivering practical GIS solutions for teams. You will work with experienced colleagues to implement spatial solutions and improve GIS systems and processes.

The role requires a GIS qualification or equivalent experience, familiarity with ESRI and FME, and the ability to handle spatial data with accuracy.

Qualifications

• A relevant GIS qualification or equivalent practical experience.
• Some practical experience working with GIS, ideally in a workplace environment.
• Working knowledge of GIS applications such as ESRI and FME, with some experience using SQL and Microsoft tools.
• Good attention to detail and an ability to work accurately with spatial data.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with a willingness to learn and work collaboratively.

Responsibilities

• Provide spatial design services using GIS and related applications.
• Support the development, testing, and implementation of spatial solutions.
• Assist with spatial data management, quality assurance, and conversion.
• Work with subject matter experts to understand requirements and develop practical solutions.
• Support the development and maintenance of spatial standards, templates, and processes.
