Job summary

KiwiRail in Wellington is seeking a Geospatial Analyst to join its Asset Services team. This role focuses on maintaining enterprise GIS platforms and supporting users across the business, leveraging ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, and FME.

You will collaborate with experienced specialists, gain hands-on experience with system integration, workflow optimisation, and geospatial application development while applying strong analytical thinking and a customer-focused approach.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, Spatial Sciences, IT, CS, Engineering, or related field.
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online or similar GIS platforms.
  • Experience with GIS data management and application configuration.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Clear communication and ability to support both technical and non-technical users.
  • Collaborative approach with a strong customer focus.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and continuously develop capability.

Responsibilities

  • Support administration and maintenance of KiwiRail's enterprise GIS platforms.
  • Assist with managing users, permissions, and geospatial content.
  • Monitor and support automated spatial data workflows to ensure high-quality data.
  • Provide first-line support for GIS applications and users across the business.
  • Help configure and improve mobile and web GIS applications.
  • Support automation initiatives using FME and Python.
  • Assist with system upgrades, testing, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with digital teams and stakeholders to deliver geospatial solutions.

Position Description

We're looking for a Geospatial Analyst to join our Asset Services team in Wellington. This is an exciting opportunity for a geospatial professional with experience in GIS and spatial analysis to contribute to projects that support one of New Zealand's largest infrastructure networks.

Collaborating with experienced specialists, you'll help maintain and improve KiwiRail's geospatial platforms, support users across the business, and contribute to automation and digital innovation. You'll gain hands‑on experience with enterprise technologies including ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, and FME, while developing practical skills in system integration, workflow optimisation, and geospatial application development.

In this role, you will:

  • Support the administration and maintenance of KiwiRail's enterprise GIS platforms

We're looking for someone who is curious, collaborative, and passionate about geospatial technology, with strong analytical thinking skills and a continuous improvement mindset.

You’ll bring:

  • A Bachelor's degree in GIS, Spatial Sciences, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, or similar GIS platforms
  • Exposure to GIS, spatial data management, or application configuration through study, projects, or work experience
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to support both technical and non-technical users
  • A collaborative approach and a strong customer focus
  • A willingness to learn new technologies and continuously develop your technical capability

It would be advantageous if you have experience or an interest in:

  • FME Form or FME Flow
  • Python or scripting for automation
  • System integration, ETL processes, or AI-enabled workflows
