Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora invites applications for a General Medicine Physician to join Dunedin Hospital. This is a permanent role with both full‑time and part‑time opportunities.

The physician will provide primary medical care to a population of approximately 350,000 across the lower South Island. The role involves leading ward rounds, coordinating multidisciplinary care plans, and participating in teaching, research, and CPD within a combined clinical‑academic environment.

Qualifications

• Broad background in Internal Medicine and experience managing a wide spectrum of patients.
• Focus on patient-centered care as a core professional value.
• Eligibility for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.

Responsibilities

• Manage patient care, including history taking, examination and ongoing treatment.
• Lead ward rounds and coordinate multidisciplinary care plans.
• Perform required clinical procedures.
• Participate in audit and quality improvement activities.
• Teach and mentor medical and nursing students.
• Engage in continuing professional development and research within a combined clinical‑academic environment.
