Work alongside an experienced leadership team and a supportive, progressive Board.

Lead exciting course development projects and build on the Club's growing commercial success.

About Manawatu Golf Club

Manawatu Golf Club is one of New Zealand's most respected golf clubs, with a proud history dating back to 1895 and a course recognised as one of the oldest, and best, in the country.

Located in Palmerston North, the Club has a rich golfing heritage, a welcoming membership and an excellent reputation for hosting major national and regional golf events.

Our events calendar includes national interprovincial championships, Charles Tour events, the Brian Green Property Group Super 6s, and the Robertson Prestige Audi Pro-Am. These events are made possible through strong relationships with Golf New Zealand, an outstanding network of sponsors, committed volunteers and an experienced team.

With more than 1,150 members, approximately 50,000 rounds played annually, around 40 employees and an annual turnover of approximately $5 million, Manawatu Golf Club is a substantial and diverse golfing and hospitality operation.

Our mission is simple: “To be a club that members enjoy and are proud of.”

This mission underpins everything we do and will be at the heart of the successful candidate's leadership.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an engaging, commercially capable and people-focused General Manager to lead Manawatu Golf Club through an exciting period of development and opportunity.

Reporting to a supportive and progressive Board, the General Manager will provide strategic and operational leadership across all areas of the Club, including golf operations, course management, membership, hospitality, events, finance, sponsorship and commercial development.

The successful candidate will inherit a strong and experienced leadership team, including:

An outstanding Finance and Administration Manager who also provides day-to-day operational leadership.

An experienced and successful Head Golf Professional who leads a club owned Pro Shop

A highly respected and experienced Golf Course Superintendent.

An engaged and experienced Food and Beverage Manager.

An Events Manager making a positive impact across the Club's event operations.

An experienced and respected Membership Manager (part time)

This established team provides a strong operational foundation, allowing the incoming General Manager to focus on leadership, strategic priorities, commercial performance and the continued improvement of the member experience.

Exciting Priorities and Projects Ahead

The Club is entering an important period of investment, development and commercial opportunity, with four key areas of focus for the incoming General Manager.

Lead and project manage the delivery of the member-approved $1.5 million irrigation upgrade, working closely with the Superintendent, contractors and Board to ensure successful implementation.

Course Masterplan

Lead the staged implementation of the Club's recently adopted Course Masterplan, developed in partnership with renowned golf course designer Phil Tataurangi. This includes balancing immediate improvements with long-term course development, financial sustainability and the expectations of members.

Driving Range Development

Support the planning, funding and potential development of an exciting new technology-enabled driving range facility, designed to enhance the golfing experience and create new commercial opportunities for the Club.

Café, Bar and Events Development

Continue the strong momentum being built across the Club's Café, Bar and Events operations. Working alongside an engaged and capable hospitality and events team, the General Manager will ensure the ongoing development of these important areas of the business, strengthening service standards, growing revenue, improving financial performance and ensuring the Club is a welcoming and enjoyable destination for members, guests and the wider community.

These priorities, alongside the development and implementation of the Club's next Strategic Plan, provide a genuine opportunity for the new General Manager to make a lasting contribution to Manawatu Golf Club.

About You

We are looking for a leader who understands that a successful golf club is built on great people, sound financial management, strong relationships and an outstanding member experience.

Ideally, you will bring:

Proven leadership experience in golf, sport, hospitality, tourism or another membership-focused or commercially operated organisation.

Strong financial and commercial management skills, with experience meeting budgets, managing revenue, costs and business performance.

The ability to lead, motivate and support an experienced team while building a positive, accountable workplace culture.

Experience in project management, strategic planning and delivering organisational improvements.

An understanding of hospitality, events and the importance of building commercially successful operations that complement the core golf business.

Excellent communication and relationship management skills, particularly when working with members, Boards, committees, sponsors and community partners.

A proactive, visible and approachable leadership style.

An understanding of golf club operations and the unique expectations of a membership-based organisation, or a genuine willingness to develop that understanding.

Above all, you will appreciate that our members are at the heart of everything we do, and that delivering an enjoyable, welcoming and high-quality club experience is our number one priority.
