Job description

Help us build the business behind the road trips.

Big Little Campers began in 2019 with a simple idea: build campervans we would love to travel in and look after customers the way we would want to be looked after.

Since then, we have grown by approximately 80% year-on-year and now operate a growing fleet of high-end campervans across Auckland and Christchurch. Our campers are thoughtfully designed and built here in New Zealand for travellers from around the world.

We are Qualmark Gold accredited with more than 275+ five-star Google reviews, while keeping the personality and care that got us here.

Now we need someone to make the business behind the vans as good as the trips we send people on.

The role

We are looking for an experienced General Manager or senior operations leader to take the reins of the day-to-day business.

You will work closely with the founder at first, then take ownership of the people, fleet, customer experience, sales, safety and financial performance across both locations.

Your week might include reviewing bookings and fleet utilisation, helping the team solve an operational problem, improving a process, working through budgets or finding a better use for technology and AI.

At its heart, the job is straightforward: help us grow without losing what makes Big Little Campers special.

Who we are looking for

You will have led a busy, customer-facing or multi-site operation and held real responsibility for people, budgets and results.

You might come from tourism, vehicle rental, hospitality, logistics or another fast-moving service business. You may already be a General Manager, or an Operations Lead ready to run the whole operation.

We need stronger systems and clearer ways of working. We do not need layers of process for the sake of it. The right person will understand the difference.

You will have real freedom to make decisions, work directly with the founder and see the effect of your work across the company. The brand is established, and the product is loved, but there is still plenty left for you to shape.

This is a hands-on role in a seven-day tourism business. Tourism does not always respect office hours, so it will not fit neatly into Monday to Friday every week.

About the role

The General Manager is responsible for leading the day-to-day performance of Big Little Campers and building the operating capability required to support its next stage of growth. To manage the day-to-day customer-facing and operational requirements of a fast-paced, growing boutique campervan rental business. The role will build the long-term sustainability of the company and support manageable growth by drawing on previous experience managing and operating a small to medium-sized business, while laying the foundations for the business to scale. Working closely with the Managing Director, the General Manager will progressively assume full accountability for the company's people, fleet, customer experience, sales performance, health and safety, financial delivery, and daily operations.

Key responsibilities

Oversight and management of day-to-day operations, including reservation management, sales pipeline management, product delivery, team management across both sites, rostering, stock and supply management, vehicle quality and safety assurance, and development and improvement of systems within a controlled standard operating procedure environment

Management of the sales pipeline, Trade Distribution relationships and direct sales performance

Building and managing budgets alongside the Finance Manager

Delivering agreed P&L and EBITDA targets

Proactively improving spending efficiency and resource allocation

Managing vehicle utilisation to meet performance targets

Monthly reporting to the Board of Directors

About you

At least eight years of relevant experience, likely gained in a senior leadership role such as General Manager or Operations Lead

Experience leading teams across multiple sites, building systems and using data to manage and assess performance

Comfortable being hands-on when required and demonstrated willingness to work in a fast-paced and flexible environment

Be willing to take ownership and work independently

Have a genuine passion for the outdoors

Be a strong leader who is happy to get stuck in and support the team

Have a strong interest in technology and AI

Enjoy working with data and understanding the detail behind performance
