Job summary

Big Little Campers Ltd. is seeking an Automotive Technician to join our Auckland workshop. You will perform servicing, diagnostics and repairs to keep campervans safe and road-ready, with guidance from an experienced Senior Mechanic.

This role offers hands-on learning across mechanical, electrical and fit-out work, with training provided and the potential for growth as our fleet expands. A NZ licence is required.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of hands-on mechanical experience.
• Comfort with workshop tools and equipment.
• Willingness to learn from an experienced Senior Mechanic.
• Full NZ driver’s licence or international licence.

Responsibilities

• Completing scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance.
• Diagnosing mechanical faults and carrying out repairs.
• Inspecting, changing and balancing tyres.
• Preparing vehicles for CoF inspections.
• Supporting fleet compliance and accurate maintenance records.
• Assisting with parts ordering, stock control and workshop organisation.
• Repairing and maintaining campervan fixtures and onboard systems.
• Helping with campervan upgrades and fit-outs during quieter winter period.

Big Little Campers is a growing campervan rental business based in Auckland and Christchurch. We design and operate a distinctive fleet of campervans built to help our guests experience the best of New Zealand.

As our fleet grows, we’re looking for a practical and motivated Automotive Technician to join our Auckland workshop. You’ll work closely with our experienced Senior Mechanic, developing your skills while helping us keep our vehicles safe, reliable and ready for the road.

What the Role Involves

No two days in our workshop are quite the same. You’ll work across routine servicing, fault diagnosis, repairs, vehicle preparation and campervan systems, with support and guidance from our Senior Mechanic.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Completing scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance
• Diagnosing mechanical faults and carrying out repairs
• Inspecting, changing and balancing tyres
• Preparing vehicles for CoF inspections
• Supporting fleet compliance and accurate maintenance records
• Assisting with parts ordering, stock control and workshop organisation
• Repairing and maintaining campervan fixtures and onboard systems
• Helping with campervan upgrades and fit-outs during the quieter winter period
• Supporting the wider depot team when required

Full training will be provided for the campervan-specific parts of the role.

Who We’re Looking For

You don’t necessarily need to be a fully qualified mechanic, but you do need practical automotive experience and confidence working around vehicles.

You’ll ideally bring:

• At least one year of hands-on mechanical experience
• Confidence using workshop tools and equipment
• A logical approach to fault-finding and problem-solving
• A willingness to learn from an experienced Senior Mechanic
• Good organisation and attention to detail
• Pride in completing work properly
• The ability to communicate well and contribute positively to a team
• A full New Zealand or international driver’s licence

Useful Additional Experience

Experience in any of the following would be helpful, but isn’t essential:

• Automotive or trade qualifications
• Auto-electrical work
• Carpentry, plumbing or general fabrication
• CoF preparation and compliance
• Campervans, rental vehicles or tourism operations
• Workshop stock, parts or maintenance systems
