Job summary

Mexted Sports Turf is seeking a General Engineer / Fitter & Turner to join our Plimmerton, Porirua workshop. You will design, build, service and maintain specialist sports turf equipment, ensuring reliability and safety. Work alongside qualified mechanics in a practical, varied role.

You will troubleshoot, fabricate, repair and modify equipment, with CAD support and a focus on quality and productivity. A pre-employment drug test is required and NZ work rights are essential.

Qualifications

• Relevant engineering trade qualification (e.g. Fitter & Turner).
• Practical experience in fabrication, machinery maintenance or engineering repairs.
• Willingness to learn CAD software is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Undertaking new fabrication and engineering projects.
• Modifying plant and equipment to meet operational requirements.
• Carrying out repairs and preventative maintenance.
• Replacing worn or damaged parts and components.
• Working on specialist sports turf equipment.

We are looking for a qualified General Engineer/Fitter & Turner to join our Plimmerton, Porirua workshop. This is an opportunity to work in a practical, varied role where we design, build, service, modify and maintain the specialist sports turf equipment used across our operations.

About the role

Working as part of our workshop team of qualified mechanics and engineers, you will help ensure our plant, machinery and equipment are safe, reliable and ready for use.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Undertaking new fabrication and engineering projects
• Modifying plant and equipment to meet operational requirements
• Carrying out repairs and preventative maintenance
• Replacing worn or damaged parts and components
• Working on specialist sports turf equipment
• Assisting with CAD file design and engineering solutions

• Ability to build hydraulic systems
• Maintaining high standards of workmanship, quality and productivity
• Keeping the workshop, tools and work areas tidy, safe and well organised
• Following our health and safety procedures and contributing to a positive safety culture

About you

We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work and brings a positive, flexible approach to the role.

To be successful, you will have:

• A relevant engineering trade qualification e.g. Fitter & Turner
• Practical experience in fabrication, machinery maintenance or engineering repairs
• The ability to problem-solve and focus on achieving the right outcome
• The confidence to work independently while contributing positively to a team
• Good computer literacy and a willingness to learn new software and technology
• A strong focus on quality, productivity and safe work practices
• A positive, reliable and approachable attitude
• Good physical fitness and the ability to work in a hands‑on workshop environment

Experience with CAD software would be an advantage, but is not essential. We are happy to support the right person who is motivated to learn and develop.

You will need to be willing to undertake a pre-employment drug test and have the right to work in New Zealand.
