Overview

Whangārei, Northland, New Zealand – Permanent full‑time position. No on‑call or general medicine duties.

About the Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic Gastroenterologist to join our team at Whangārei Hospital. Our group of four supportive gastroenterologists seeks an additional team member who can provide general GI care, basic ERCP, and EUS skills to support the growing population in New Zealand's idyllic Northland.

  • Provide general GI patient care.
  • Perform basic ERCP procedures.
  • Perform EUS procedures.
  • Support the current advanced therapeutic endoscopist by transitioning the ERCP and EUS caseload to a new colleague.
Location

Whangārei offers a warm climate, winterless north, excellent schools, affordable housing and scenic coastal areas with a range of recreational activities. It is a two‑hour drive or a 25‑minute flight from the international hub of Auckland.

About You
  • Must have or be eligible for specialist (or locum tenens) registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) in an Internal Medicine Vocational scope of practice.
  • Ideally possess FRACP or an equivalent qualification; we are also open to advanced trainees nearing completion of their training.
  • Desirable skills: general GI, basic ERCP, and GI luminal stent.
  • We can assist overseas candidates not yet registered with MCNZ to obtain registration.
