Job summary

Hamilton City Council is seeking a hands-on street landscapes worker to maintain greenspaces and support city gardening initiatives. The role involves daily landscape upkeep, assisting the broader team, and complying with traffic management and safety standards in all weather conditions.

Applicants should hold NZ horticulture qualifications (Level 3) and a valid NZ driver licence, with Grow Safe a plus. The team emphasises harmony, reliability, and adaptability in a community-focused council

Qualifications

• NZ Certificate in Horticulture Services (Level 3) Amenity or similar is required.
• Grow Safe qualification would be advantageous to applicants.
• Experience with traffic management setups and compliance expected.
• Current full New Zealand Driver Licence is required.
• Experience in agrichemical preparation and application is preferred.
• Knowledge of amenity plants and general tools/equipment is essential.
• Ability to identify plant pests and diseases, and a strong work ethic.

This role sits in the Council’s Community Group, which comprises of community focused services such as Hamilton Pool, Parks and Recreation, Hamilton City Librariesand the city’s three main visitor attractions.

The Street Landscapes team maintain greenspaces and development Hamilton’s roading corridor for our community.Our work ensures Hamilton is beautiful, fun, connected, and meets our community wants and needs, making our city one we’re all proud of.

Qualifications

• The minimum of a New Zealand Certificate in Horticulture Services (Level 3) Amenity or similar qualification
• A Grow Safe qualification would be advantageous
• Experience with Traffic management set ups and compliance along with the Traffic controller/ STMS qualification
• CurrentFullNew Zealand Driver License
• Experience in the preparation and application of agrichemicals
• Knowledge and experience of the use and maintenance of general tools, plant and equipment
• Good understanding and experience to identify and control plant pests and diseases
• A solid work ethic and a willingness to work in all weathers
• An understanding of Health and Safety requirements working in this industry
• Good knowledge of amenity plants

Circa $29.90 per hour dependent on skills and experience.
