Job summary

Datacom’s Smartly unit seeks a capable Full Stack Engineer to help deliver the Smartly Payroll SaaS. The role emphasizes strong front-end and back-end collaboration, modern tech usage, and mentoring junior engineers.

You’ll contribute to scalable, secure, and robust payroll solutions while embracing agile practices and AI-assisted development. We value practical problem-solving, clear communication, and a passion for building high-quality software in a hybrid New Zealand environment.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years' experience across multiple SDLC phases.
  • Recent C# .NET experience with at least 2 years.
  • Experience with HTML, JavaScript, CSS, React, or ASP.NET Razor.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, SOLID principles, and object-oriented programming.
  • Knowledge of software configuration management using Git.
  • Familiarity with service-oriented frameworks.
  • Ability to implement features, unit tests, and fix complex bugs.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a focus on cohesive teams.
  • Public cloud exposure (Azure) is a bonus.

Responsibilities

  • Own day-to-day delivery of assigned work, clarifying feature ambiguity, managing tasks, supporting releases, and verifying production outcomes.
  • Contribute to team-owned delivery by inputting effort, raising risks or blockers early, communicating progress clearly, and helping the team deliver work predictably.
  • Contribute to team-owned quality through testing, code review, safe change practices, and attention to correctness, maintainability, security, and performance.
  • Use modern tooling, automation, and AI-assisted development to improve delivery efficiency, feedback loops, and code quality while remaining accountable for the output.
  • Support less experienced engineers through collaboration, review feedback, and strong day-to-day engineering practice.

About The Role (your Why)

As a Full Stack Engineer, you will work on our Smartly Payroll System. Smartly is a SaaS Online Payroll Product helping more than 20,000 clients to with their payroll needs. Our ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience working on the front end and back end; also have a strong ability to solve problems, design & write clean code; and mentor junior engineers.

What You’ll Do

What You’ll Bring
  • 2+ years' experience working on IT projects across multiple phases of the SDLC.
  • Recent C# .NET experience with at least 2 years of .NET development.
  • Experience with web front-end technologies, including HTML, JavaScript, CSS, React, or ASP.NET Razor.
  • Good understanding of software architecture, design patterns, SOLID principles, and object-oriented programming.
  • Knowledge of software configuration management using tools such as Git.
  • Familiarity with service-oriented frameworks.
  • Ability to implement features, unit tests, and fix complex bugs.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a strong focus on helping create cohesive, collaborative, and productive teams.
  • Strong problem-solving and conceptual thinking skills.
  • Public cloud exposure (Azure) is a bonus.
