Job summary

Tribe Group is seeking a frontend engineer to join a close-knit product squad. You’ll work on a web-first ReactJS app, guided by a Frontend Lead and reporting into Head of Engineering. Expect hands-on feature work, performance optimization, and ongoing improvements within a dynamic squad.

You’ll collaborate across APIs (REST/GraphQL), Node.js services, and AWS/serverless components, contributing to maintainable, scalable frontend systems. Hybrid in NZ with strong engineering leadership.

About The Opportunity

You will join a close-knit product squad embedded within one of several product streams. The work is web-first and hands‑on, with plenty of opportunity to have impact quickly. You’ll be working closely with a Frontend Lead (strong guidance, good standards, pragmatic delivery) and reporting into a Head of Engineering.

This Role Has a Healthy Balance Of

• New feature development (shipping meaningful improvements, not just small UI tweaks)
• Technical debt and continuous improvement (raising the bar on maintainability and developer experience)
• Performance work (because great UX is built, not hoped for)

The Tech Environment

Your Day-to-day Focus Will Sit Firmly On The ReactJS Web Application, But You’ll Operate In a Wider Engineering Ecosystem That Includes

• JavaScript/TypeScript
• APIs (RESTful and/or GraphQL)
• Backend services in Node.js
• AWS and serverless components (Lambda, DynamoDB, S3, etc.)
• CI/CD foundations and monitoring/logging as part of delivering reliable software

You do not need to be a backend specialist, but you should be comfortable leaning in when needed, whether that’s understanding how data flows, helping troubleshoot an integration, or collaborating closely with backend engineers to get to the best outcome.

What You’ll Bring
