Job summary

Otago Regional Council (ORC) invites applications for two Freshwater Ambassadors to join our Biosecurity team on a fixed-term basis (approximately 3 months), full-time (37.5 hours per week). You will be based in Central Otago at Alexandra, Wanaka or Cromwell offices.

The role aims to raise public awareness of freshwater biosecurity threats and promote behaviour change to prevent the spread of aquatic pests through the national Check, Clean, Dry programme.

Qualifications

• Appropriate tertiary qualification with an appreciation for the environment, aquatic and/or biosecurity.
• Ability to work outdoors with willingness to adapt depending on weather, event calendar and work schedule.
• Active listening, verbal, written and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Survey freshwater users to understand knowledge of freshwater pests and promote Check Clean Dry.
• Issue and communicate freshwater pest awareness information to the public.
• Support event organisers and volunteers at sports events.

We are looking for a two Freshwater Ambassador’s to join our Biosecurity team on a fixed-term (approx. 3 months), full time (37.5 hours per week) basis. You will be based in Central Otago at one of our busy Alexandra, Wanaka or Cromwell office’s.

The purpose of this position is to raise public awareness of freshwater biosecurity threats and promote behaviour change to prevent the spread of aquatic pests and diseases through the national Check, Clean, Dry programme

As a Freshwater Ambassador, you will be responsible for:

• Surveying freshwater users for Otago Regional Council & Ministry for Primary Industries to better understand knowledge of freshwater pests and encourage the use of Check Clean Dry
• Issuing and communicating freshwater pest awareness information to members of the public
• Supporting event organisers and volunteers at sports events
