Job summary

Otago Regional Council in Dunedin is seeking a Field Surveyor & Design Engineer to join the Engineering team on a permanent, full-time basis. The role blends engineering design, project management and surveying to ensure safe, efficient project delivery within scope and to a high professional standard.

You will carry out field surveys, process data, and assist in defining project scope while developing required resources; hybrid work arrangement supported, in-office Dunedin.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering (Civil), surveying or similar experience.
  • Experience assisting with project coordination, design, field work, or technical support.
  • Understanding of surveying principles, data collection, processing, and stake-out.
  • Ability to operate survey equipment including GPS/GNSS and total stations.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out field surveying activities including topographical, cross sections, project set-out, as-built surveys and data collection.
  • Process survey data and prepare plans, drawings and reports.
  • Assist with defining project scope and objectives and ensure deliverables are met.
  • Develop resources to reach objectives and manage resources efficiently.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a FieldSurveyor & Design Engineer to join our Engineering on a permanent, fulltime (37.5 hours per week) basis, in our busy Dunedin office.

The purpose of this position is to assist the Team Leader Assets and Deliveryand Manager Engineering to deliver infrastructure projects. They will beresponsible for delivering specific tasks within the project delivery team aswell as managing projects with support and guidance.

This hybrid role combines engineering design, project management, andtechnical surveying expertise ensuring projects are delivered safely,efficiently, within scope, and to a high professional standard.

As a Field Surveyor & DesignEngineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Carrying out field surveying activitiesincluding topographical, cross sections, project set-out, as-built surveys, andgeneral data collection
  • Processing survey data and preparing plans,drawings and reports
  • Assisting with determining and defining project scopeand objectives and ensuring project deliverables are met
  • Developing resources needed to reach objectivesand manage resources in an effective and efficient manner

About You

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree level tertiary qualification inEngineering (Civil), surveying or similar experience
  • Experience assisting with projectcoordination, design, field work, or technical support activities.
  • Understandingof engineering surveying principles and field procedures, including datacollection, data processing, and construction stake-out
  • Abilityto operate survey equipment including GPS/GNSS and total stations, orwillingness to learn.
  • Good verbal and written communicationskills
  • Abilityto manage multiple tasks and work to deadlines
