Job summary

Downer in New Zealand is seeking a Fleet Telematics Specialist to manage the telematics platform and ensure reliable asset connectivity, data integrity and service effectiveness.

You will partner with offshore support, fleet stakeholders and providers to maximise value, coordinate installations and maintain accurate records. The role emphasizes continuous improvement, reporting and governance to support operational performance.

Job description

The Fleet Telematics Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day management and operational performance of the telematics platform within the assigned country. Acting as the subject matter expert for telematics services, this role provides support to internal stakeholders, customers and business units while ensuring data integrity, system reliability and service effectiveness. The position plays a key role in supporting fleet operations through effective platform administration, issue resolution, supplier coordination and continuous improvement initiatives. Working closely with service providers, offshore support teams and fleet stakeholders, the role helps maximise the value, compliance and operational performance of telematics technology.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the operational performance, administration and ongoing effectiveness of the telematics platform, ensuring reliable service delivery and accurate asset connectivity.
• Act as the primary subject matter expert for telematics systems, providing guidance, troubleshooting support and practical advice to stakeholders across the business.
• Coordinate telematics asset lifecycle activities, including installations, deinstallations, asset assignments, transfers and pre-disposal requirements.
• Monitor support requests, system issues and service escalations, ensuring timely resolution and clear communication with customers and stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate platform records, device allocations and system configurations to support data quality and operational integrity.
• Identify, investigate and resolve telematics-related risks, recurring issues and compliance concerns, escalating significant matters where required.
• Partner with offshore support teams, suppliers and installation providers to deliver consistent, high-quality service outcomes and knowledge sharing.
• Support reporting, data governance and performance insights by maintaining dashboards, registers and data records that inform operational decision-making.

What You Will Bring

• Experience working with telematics, fleet technology, transport systems or similar operational platforms.
• Demonstrated ability to manage support requests, service issues and stakeholder enquiries in a fast-paced operational environment.
• Strong understanding of telematics data, reporting, system administration and troubleshooting practices.
• Experience coordinating suppliers, service providers or shared support teams to achieve service delivery outcomes.
• High attention to detail with strong data management skills and a commitment to maintaining accurate records and process compliance.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and experience using fleet, telematics, reporting or enterprise systems; relevant qualifications or industry certifications will be advantageous.
