Job summary

Madison Recruitment is seeking a Financial Advisor for a respected public sector organisation in Wellington. This 12-month contract combines financial analysis, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and advisory work to support informed decision-making and positive community outcomes.

You will report to the Senior Financial Advisor and provide financial advice, monitoring, and stakeholder reporting, with a focus on maintaining strong controls, supporting planning, and delivering accurate financial

Qualifications

• 3+ years’ experience in a finance, management accounting, or financial advisory role.
• Strong financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and analytical skills.
• Experience investigating and resolving financial issues and audit queries.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Intermediate to advanced Excel capability.

About the Role

Reporting to the Senior Financial Advisor, you’ll provide financial advice, monitoring, analysis, and reporting to support sound decision-making across the organisation. You’ll play a key role in maintaining strong financial controls, supporting planning and budgeting processes, and delivering accurate financial information to internal stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing financial advice and decision support to managers and stakeholders.
• Monitoring, analysing, and forecasting financial performance.
• Supporting budgeting, forecasting, and business planning activities.
• Preparing monthly and year-end financial reporting.

About You

We’re seeking a finance professional with at least three years’ experience in a finance, management accounting, financial analyst, or advisory role. You’ll be analytical, detail-oriented, and able to translate financial information into practical insights for stakeholders.

You’ll bring:

• 3+ years’ experience in a finance, management accounting, or financial advisory role.
• Strong financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and analytical skills.
• Experience investigating and resolving financial issues.
• Intermediate to advanced Excel capability.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• A proactive approach and strong problem-solving ability.
• Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or similar would be advantageous.
• A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
